A Study on Measurement Method for Mode Conversion of Differential Communication Line Termination Structures

(in English) In recent years, the number of systems that combine multiple electronic devices has been increasing, and the importance of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of the differential communications that connect electronic devices has been growing. To analyze the behavior of disturbance which influences a differential communication system, it is necessary to consider the coupling of the noise to the differential communication line and the mode conversion at the termination of UTP (Unshielded twisted pair) cable. In this study, we proposed two methods to extract the electrical characteristics of a three-conductor system including arbitrary termination structures such as the connection between the UTP cable termination and the board, and elements on the printed circuit board, by measuring three-port S-parameters using a current probe. The usefulness of the two methods was shown by experimental verification, as a result, almost the same mode conversion amount can be obtained from both methods.
