Universal cost bound of quantum error mitigation based on quantum estimation theory

(in English) In this work, we provide a unified way to analyze the cost of various quantum error mitigation methods using the quantum estimation theory. We derive for a wide class of Markovian noise that unbiased estimation of an observable encounters an exponential growth with respect to the circuit depth in the lower bound on the measurement cost. We can asymptotically saturate the bound by a simple mitigation technique for the global depolarizing noise. Our results not only reveal the universal physical limitations of quantum error mitigation, but also provide a new criterion for performance evaluation of quantum error mitigation techniques.
