A Study on Obfuscation of Node Centrality in Large-Scale Networks

(in English) Node centrality (e.g., degree centrality, eigenvector centrality, betweenness centrality), which is determined by the network topology, is widely used in network analysis, data mining, and many other applications. However, node centrality is a quantitative measure of indicating how node is relatively important than others, and nodes with high centrality are at various risks because they contain information and value that can have a significant impact on surrounding nodes and the network. Several high-precision centrality measures have been proposed, and many studies have been conducted to accelerate the calculation of centrality measures, but on the other hand, from the perspective of security and privacy protection, it is also required to obfuscate the centrality of nodes. In this study, we therefore propose an algorithm to obfuscate the centrality of a particular set of nodes in a large-scale network by adding and deleting a small number of links. Specifically, we propose COBF (Centrality OBFuscation), which applies a concept of ProHiCo (Probabilistic algorithm to Hide Communities) by Liu et al., and we investigate how the centrality can be obfuscated with our algorithm.
