Under the spread of the novel coronavirus COVID-19, it has become extremely important to keep social distance. In this context, a practical distance sensing technology is needed nowadays. The authors have proposed distance measurement method so as to measure precisely the distance to the target by applying a principle of the standing wave radar (which has been developed in the field of microwave radars) to distance measurement using audible sound. This method has an advantage of measuring the distance to a target at close to 0 m and at longer distances. In this report, first we will explain the principle of acoustic distance measurement (ADM) methods based on phase interference using the audible sound, then the extension of ADM method, and the sound source estimation method using multiple reflections between a sound source and a reflector. Experimental results are also shown to demonstrate the validity and effectiveness of ADM method. |
