There are few reports on kotsuzumi tonal adjustments and comparisons of multiple kotsuzumi or different players, so there are many unexplored aspects of kotsuzumi sound. In this study, we analyzed the spectra of kotsuzumi sounds of multiple kotsuzumi and different players to clarify the acoustic characteristics of kotsuzumi and the sensitivity of the players. 2 types of kotsuzumi, different numbers and positions of washi paper, drum sounds of different players, and clapping and drum sounds were compared. The results are as follows. The traditional kotsuzumi has a harmonious overall sound and its frequency response is composed of integer harmonics. The addition of washi paper modulates the vibration of the back skin and harmonizes the entire kotsuzumi. There is a clear difference between professionals and inexperienced players. Although hand characteristics are involved in the sound of the kotsuzumi, we found that the characteristics of the instrument itself were stronger in the professionals than in the hands. |
