The effect of interacting minds on response bias in two-person perceptual decision-making
Tatsuru Kawachi, Yousuke Kawachi (Tohoku Univ.) HIP2022-73
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Previous studies have indicated that two-person made more accurate responses than individuals in perceptual decision-making. However, it is unclear whether this improvement in accuracy is due to the change of sensitivity alone or related to response criteria. Response biases are natural in everyday decision-making. And thus, we should carefully consider the effect of response bias in two-person decision-making. The present study examined perceptual sensitivity and response criteria in two-person decision-making from the signal detection theory. The results of two experiments revealed that two-person interaction improves perceptual sensitivity and shifts decision criteria in a liberal direction. The current study provided a new insight that response bias is a factor for better understanding two-person interactions.
