Radome Effect Evaluations of Helicopter Forward-Looking Small Transmitting Power 76 GHz Millimeter-Wave Radar -- Ground Measurements of Detection Performance Degradations Due to Radome --

(in English) This report discusses radome effect evaluations of helicopter forward-looking obstacle detection 76 GHz low-transmitting power circular polarized millimeter-wave radar system. To evaluate the detection performance degradations due to the radome, the reflection powers from the typical power lines are measured and discussed on the ground. Firstly, the overview of the developed millimeter-wave radar system is discussed. The center frequency and the transmitting power are 76.5 GHz and 10 dBm, which satisfy low-transmitting power radar specification. In addition, antenna polarization is a circular polarization to obtain the reflection from the high-voltage power line. Secondly, the reflection power from the high-voltage power lines, which is located around 900 m away, are measured with and without radome structures. Issues due to the reflection from the radome surface are analyzed. Ground test results indicated that the conventional radome structure increases the noise floor by more than 20 dB. Such degradation can be improved using the proposed radome structure.
