Estimation of Human Blockage Characteristics for Indoor Propagation in a Local-5G Frequency Band Using Large Scale FDTD Analysis

(in English) Local 5G, the fifth-generation mobile communication system (5G) that companies and local governments can construct flexibly within their buildings or on specific sites, is being developed and demonstrated. This paper presents a quantitative evaluation of the effect of human shadowing on the propagation characteristics of the local 5G frequency band in an indoor environment. A conference room containing multiple human bodies was modeled with high accuracy, and propagation characteristics were evaluated by a large-scale three-dimensional numerical analysis based on the FDTD method. We set up a 4.7 GHz transmitting antenna that simulated a base station antenna in the conference room and discussed the differences in the characteristics of the electromagnetic field strength distribution in the entire conference room due to the presence or absence of human bodies. In the simulation, we evaluated the effects of human body shadowing or scattering under conditions like those in actual use by placing multiple human body models corresponding to changes in posture.
