Stable Video Streaming using Local 5G with Dynamic QoS Control Based on the Wireless Environment and Video Quality

(in English) Stable video delivery using network slices of the 5th generation mobile communication system (5G) is gaining. However, simply setting the 5G QoS Identifier (5QI) that defines the network slice’s Quality of Service (QoS) statically does not allow high-quality video transmission because it cannot follow changes in the wireless environment. In particular, the 5QI for low-latency video streaming has a higher acceptable packet loss rate than the 5QI for TCP applications. Therefore, when the wireless conditions deteriorate, packet loss occurs, and the video quality deteriorates significantly. This research enables cross-layer control and stable video delivery by dynamically changing the 5QI through the Network Exposure Function (NEF) based on the transmission device’s wireless environment and video streaming quality. The proposed method improves the mean value of the Predicted Gaming Mean Objective Score (MOS) from 2.00 to 3.03 and realizes stable video streaming. It also shows that local 5G can control base stations based on the network information obtained from the device.
