A Channel Selection Method Suppressing Long-term Isolation Nodes for Multi-hop Vital Data Collections from a Large Number of Exercisers

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This paper focuses on a monitoring system, which periodically collects vital data from sensor nodes attached to a large number of exercisers via wireless sensor network employing multi-hop communications. In order to achieve reliable data collections in mobile environments, MAP (Multi-hop Access Protocol) has been proposed, which uses flooding protocol to construct routes to collect data with TDMA-based data transmissions. When multi-channel communications are applied to MAP to increase the number of nodes accommodated, the number of operating nodes per channel decreases, which increases the number of isolated nodes with no neighbors found to deliver their data. In order to avoid this problem, ACS-MAP (Autonomous Channel Selection based MAP) has been proposed, which introduces autonomous channel selections to suppress isolated nodes, however. ACS-MAP requires each node to accurately manage and control their timer, which makes it hard to implement with practical equipments. Therefore, this paper proposes a channel selection method that does not require accurate timer control and management to suppress the long-term isolation. We evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method by simulation evaluations and verify its practicality by implementing it into practical equipment.
