In order to improve motivation for exercise and to maintain health while having fun, we incorporated music performance into physical exercise by using the electronic instrument “Cymis”. In a previous study, we found that the system made exercise more enjoyable. However, exercise intensity while using this system has not been sufficiently investigated. To estimate the exercise intensity (METs) of the exercisers, we had the exercisers play some music using the developed system and measured their heart rate during the performance. As a result, we found that the exercisers were able to exercise at an intensity (3 METs or higher) necessary for health maintenance by using the system. Exercisers who were able to exercise at 3 METs or higher were found to perform at an average tempo of 90 bpm or higher and to apply a force of 8.0 kPa or higher to the air bag as they stomped their feet. |
