Resource-Efficient and Availability-Aware Virtual Network Function Placement and Service Chaining with Virtual Network Function Diversity and Redundancy

(in English) To realize network services in the NFV network, we first construct a service chain graph which consists of virtual nodes representing virtual network functions (VNFs) and virtual links connecting VNFs. Then we simultaneously solve VNF placement and service chaining problems, which assign the virtual nodes and links to the physical nodes and links under the resource constraints and service chain requirements. Since it is difficult to maintain the service quality under the failures of physical nodes and VNFs, there are studies on the VNF placement and service chaining schemes jointly considering VNF diversity and redundancy.The existing work, however, does not sufficiently consider the tradeoff between diversity and redundancy of VNFs and network resource utilization. In this paper, we propose a scheme that simultaneously achieves resource-efficient VNF placement and service chaining while adjusting the appropriate VNF diversity and redundancy against the service chain requirements. Through the numerical experiments, we show that the proposed scheme can achieve more effective resource allocation while satisfying the availability requirement at the 28.58--44.55¥,s increase of execution time, compared with the existing scheme.
