A Study on Beyond 5G Systems for Interconnection with Satellite Communication Systems

(in English) Beyond 5G/6G, the next-generation information and communication infrastructure, is expected to play a central role as the social infrastructure supporting Society 5.0. To fulfil this role as the backbone infrastructure role, one of the features of Beyond 5G/6G is its scalability to enable seamless connectivity with satellites and HAPS. In addition, the development of high-throughput satellite communication systems, which enable high-capacity communications, has progressed in recent years and is expected to be coupled with Beyond 5G/6G. This paper presents the use cases of Beyond 5G/6G systems coupled with satellite communication systems and reports on the results of technical demonstrations. We also discuss the requirements and interfaces needed to maximise the performance of the coupled system.
