Development of space-charge detection sensor for the spacecraft using silicon photonics

(in English) Various micro-optical devices using silicon photonic crystals have been developed, such as low-loss slow-light waveguides, high-Q nanocavities, and low-threshold Raman silicon lasers. It has been demonstrated that these optical devices can be mass-fabricated. We have been recently studied the detection of the ionized space charges using the photonic crystal optical devices. Compared to existing detection methods using the electronics, it has merits with respect to size, weight, safety, and resistance to ESD. Therefore, it is expected to be used in situations where the conventional detection technology is not utilized. We are challenging to develop a space-charge detection sensor for the spacecrafts.
