Video-Based Point Cloud Compression (V-PCC) was standardized by Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG). In V-PCC, the 3D point cloud is divided into patches, which are projected onto one of several 2D planes surrounding the entire 3D point cloud, and the patches are encoded. However, the number of bits required to encode the offset value of a patch was redundant in case of encoding it correctly without artifacts, and there was a problem of poor coding efficiency. On the other hand, artifacts appear in case of reducing the number of bits. In this paper, in order to enhance coding efficiency while avoiding artifacts, we propose a projection plane reselection method. |
