DoA-Based Reflection Point Estimation in Outdoor Multipath Environment

(in English) Intelligent reflective surface (IRS) is a planar surface comprising a large number of passive reflecting elements and can establish virtual line-of-sight (LOS) links on non-line-of-sight (NLOS) channels by coordinating reflections of incident signals on it. In this article, we propose a method for estimating a distribution of reflection points between a base station and user equipments (UEs) in order to optimize the placement of IRSs in outdoor multipath environments. Under assumptions that beam directions of the base station and 3D map data are known in advance, the proposed method estimates the single reflection points from angle of arrivals (AoAs) estimated at UEs, and obtains the distribution of the reflection points. The proposed method is validated through simulation experiments in an outdoor multipath environment.
