Simple Display System of Indoor Crowding Status for Restraint of Infection

(in English) In modern times, the novel coronavirus has been spreading and to prevent the spread, entry restrictions are being imposed on events in public places to avoid contact between people. Automating entry restrictions and other access control measures using non-human systems is in high demand in society. Existing access control systems, such as FeliCa cards that use non-contact ICs, require high installation costs for dedicated reading devices and processing for user registration on IC cards, making it difficult to use for casual events like outdoor events at school cultural festivals. Therefore, we propose a new access control system called Wächter that is suitable for the aforementioned purposes. Wächter can be easily installed and removed with a general-purpose computer terminal and a 2D barcode reader device. Users can access the reservation site on the cloud via their smartphones and make a reservation for entry immediately without the need for prior membership registration or authentication processing. In this paper, we describe the developed system, its implementation, and the results of the demonstration at National Institute of Technology, Oyama College's school festival event in October 2022. We also present the challenges and prospects for practical use in the future.
