Measured performance of a triple-band and wideband multi-ring microstrip antenna fed by an L-probe

(in English) This paper presents measured performance of a triple-band and wideband multi-ring microstrip antenna (MR-MSA) fed by an L-probe with stubs. The proposed antenna is composed of a quadruple-layered dielectric substrate. Three square ring patches are arranged on the first to third substrate from the top for triple-band operation. A feeding L-shaped probe (L-probe) to excite the three patches is placed in the bottom thick substrate for wideband operation. In order to obtain triple-band and wideband operation, dimensions of the proposed MR-MSA including thicknesses of the substrates are tuned by using numerical simulation. Furthermore, in order to improve the reflection characteristics, the L-probe with stubs is used. The design frequencies of the three bands are around 3.6 GHz, 4.6 GHz, and 6.0 GHz. The measured results reveal that fractional bandwidths of the three bands less than –10 dB reflection are 4.1%, 6.3%, and 11.4%, respectively. Reasonable agreement between the measured and simulated reflection characteristics is observed. It is also confirmed by the measurement that stable unidirectional radiation patterns are obtained for the three bands.
