LPWA concentrator using multi-antenna beamforming

(in English) In recent years, information aggregation by wireless sensor network (WSN) has been attracted attention. WSN consists of sensor nodes (SNs) and concentrators to aggregate the information of sensors. The power consumption of SNs is generally limited because of a battery. One method to achieve WSN with low power consumption is the use of LPWAN (Low Power Wide Area Network). In information aggregation with LPWAN, aggregated information is registered on a server after the concentrator aggregates information. The number of active SNs increases, and the increase of interference power associated with increasing the number of simultaneous transmitted signal at the concentrator may result in lower reception success rates. Therefore, in this paper, we propose the method where interference quantity due to SNs is reduced by using digital beamforming at the concentrator. In the proposed method, the beam for transmission suppresses interference caused by hidden nodes, and signals of multiple SNs are demodulated from an interfered signal by processing parallelly with multiple beams for reception. The simulation results show that the average PDR of the whole system and area size for collecting sensor data from SNs is improved compared to using an omnidirectional antenna.
