Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The prevention of dementia in the elderly is an important issue worldwide. We have developed a barrier-free electrical musical Instrument, Cymis (Cyber Musical Instrument with Score). We aim to use this instrument for dementia prevention. In this study, we aimed to establish an effective music therapy protocol for the prevention of dementia during instrumental performance, and measured cerebral blood flow during instrumental performance training using NIRS over a 7-day period. The results showed that cerebral blood flow during the performance of the same piece of music was higher on the seventh day, suggesting that the prefrontal cortex is activated during the performance of the same piece of music over a long period of time.
