Monitoring respiration during daily life and sleep is thought to be important in measuring lung function, the presence or absence of disease, psychological status, and exercise capacity. For this reason, devices suitable for daily respiratory recording have been developed. However, most of the devices are not widely used because they need to be worn on the torso and are not comfortable to wear. In this study, we focus on wristwatch-type wearable devices and aim to establish a less intrusive method to monitor respiratory parameters using wearable devices on the wrist and arm. Monitoring respiration during sleep was conducted in eight subjects using accelerometer sensors attached to four locations on the left arms. The results indicate that wearing the sensor on the upper arm is more suitable for respiration measurement than wearing the sensor on the wrist or forearm. These results indicate that there is a wear site dependency in the measurement of respiration on the arm. |
