Exploring Turing Patterns that Elicit Visual Disgust.

(in English) It is widely recognized that images innately perceived as disgusting exist; however, there is limited exploratory research on the characteristics of images that evoke aversion or disgust. In this study, we employed an exploratory approach that combined Turing pattern image generation and Gaussian Process Preference Learning (GPPL) to investigate the features of disgusting images. Within an 11-dimensional image feature space composed of two parameters required for generating Turing patterns and nine parameters related to three-color schemes, the image features with the highest level of disgust were estimated using GPPL based on the results of a two-alternative forced-choice task. The findings suggest that patterns causing disgust are characterized by densely packed, round shapes. The disgusting image features identified in this study were found to be similar to patterns known to induce trypophobia.
