Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The wide use of digital signage (advertising media using electronic devices) has made it possible for us to have access to more and more information. On the other hand, because of the increase in the amount of information, it has become difficult to selectively process and memorize important information. In order to solve the problem of memory in digital signage, we investigated a font that uses the disfluency effect (the phenomenon that information represented in a font that is difficult to read is more easily memorized.) to promote memory retention when paired with fonts for digital signage. We examined whether the memory of information represented by a font that is different morphologically from fonts for digital signage and difficult to read could be improved. As the result, there was no difference in memory performance by the readability or type of the font. The results suggest that the disfluency effect may be very limited and difficult to apply to real situations.
