Effects of synchronizing walking/running tempo with music tempo on users -- Design of a playback system synchronized with walking/running tempo --

(in English) The purpose of this study is to clarify the effect on the user of synchronization of walking/running tempo and music tempo in order to construct a music playback system that promotes comfortable walking/running. Synchronization of walking/running tempo and music tempo is expected to act as feedback for user's exercise and to give a pleasant feeling of synchronization with rhythm. However, estimation errors and music tempo delays are problems in music playback systems synchronized with walking/running tempo. Therefore, a walking/running tempo estimation algorithm and a method for setting the threshold used in the algorithm were investigated. As a result of evaluation experiments using various threshold values to search for the optimum threshold value, it was found that the fixed threshold value had higher estimation accuracy than the adaptive threshold value. It was also confirmed that the estimated values track better with the correct values by overlapping the estimated frames with the peaks of the past few seconds. Based on these results, we discuss how to design a music playback system to promote pleasant walking and running.
