[Invited Talk] Multi-Terabit Optical Transmission with Ultra High Symbol Rate Signal Generation and Detection Technologies

(in English) With the rapid increase of network traffic, expansion of transmission capacity per wavelength of a digital coherent optical transmission system is required. This paper describes multi-terabit transmission experiments using high-speed and multi-level signals by combining ultra-wideband devices, digital signal processing, and modulation/demodulation technologies. We generated multi-level and ultra-high symbol rate signals of 160 to 256 GBaud using an in-house InP-DHBT electrical amplifier with a bandwidth of >130 GHz. Then, we have successfully demonstrated a net bitrate of 2.11 Tb/s signal detection and 2.02 Tb/s transmission over 240 km based on entropy and code rate optimized 176-GBaud PCS144QAM signal. We also proposed a sequence estimation detection that can be applied to multilevel signals and soft-decision error correction codes to improve the decoding performance of ultra-high symbol rate signals and demonstrated that the proposed detection can improve the decoding performance of the 256-GBaud 16QAM signals.
