The main radar systems currently in use include frequency modulated continuous wave (FM-CW) radar and pulse compression radar. The latter can be further classified into those that use a chirp signal and those that use a phase code. The signal processing of these radar modulation schemes is simpler than that of cellular modulation schemes. We believe that more complex digital signal processing can be achieved with current technology. In this report, we introduce a series of studies conducted by our group, including the author, for the fundamental theory construction of waveform design for radar. We design the baseband signal in the digital domain, using a Gaussian waveform as the fundamental waveform because we simultaneously consider the time domain representation and frequency domain representation. We also introduce our group's developed method called the Phase Updating Loop (PUL) that estimates time delay and Doppler frequency simultaneously. Finally, we discuss future prospects. |
