A Proposal of Color-Correction Method for Color-Distortion Occurring in the Acquisition and Fusion of Multi-Exposure Image

(in English) A multi-exposure image is a set of multiple images taken under different exposure conditions. In exposure fusion, a high-quality image with less black-out pixels and less saturated pixels can be obtained by fusing a multi-exposure image into one image. However, the color of each pixel in a multi-exposure image is distorted in the acquisition process by the effect of the camera response function. The local processing in the fusion process, which determines the output pixel value of each pixel by using not only the pixel itself but also the surrounding pixels, also causes color-distortion. In this report, we propose two different types of color-correction methods for exposure fusion. One of the methods generates an HDR image and exploits the color information contained in the HDR image. This method can eliminate both of the two types of color-distortion described above while it requires estimation of inverse camera response function. The other of the proposed methods exploits the hue information contained in the input multi-exposure image. This method can eliminate only the color-distortion occurring in the fusion process while it does not require estimation of inverse camera response function.
