Cell-Free massive multi-input multi-output (CF mMIMO) is a candidate foundation for the sixth-generation (6G). In addition to the frequency band used in the fifth-generation new radio, the use of the frequency band around 7 to 20 GHz, called the upper-mid band, is also being considered for 6G. In such a frequency band, a hybrid beamforming (BF) architecture, which combines digital and analog BF, has been employed considering the power consumption and implementation cost of base stations. In this paper, we evaluate the impact of the antenna configuration on the spectral efficiency for CF mMIMO access points (APs) with hybrid BF in the upper-mid band. Specifically, the central processing unit performs digital BF, and each AP, equipped with multiple radio frequency chains and array antennas, performs analog BF using a connected array antenna. Through simulations, we clarify the effects of the sub-array configuration on the spectral efficiency for CF mMIMO in the upper-mid band. |
