Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In this paper, we propose a peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction method utilizing difference in eigenvalues among spatial channels in uplink eigenmode massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) transmission. The conventional clipping and filtering (CF) deteriorates the transmission quality of data signal due to the interference from the in-band PAPR reduction signal. In the proposed method, the in-band PAPR reduction signals are concentrated on the spatial channels with relatively small eigenvalues utilizing difference in them among spatial channels in eigenmode MIMO. The spatial channels experiencing large eigenvalues dominantly determine the data transmission performance. On the other hand, these spatial channels are weak against the interference from the in-band PAPR reduction signal. Therefore, by protecting the spatial channels experiencing large eigenvalues from the in-band PAPR reduction signal, the proposed method reduces the PAPR for the transmit signal while improving the transmission quality of the data signal compared to the conventional CF. Computer simulation results show that the proposed method improves the packet error rate (PER) of data signal after PAPR reduction compared to the conventional CF both for the case with the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signal and single-carrier signal based on discrete Fourier transform (DFT)-spread OFDM.
