Vibro-acoustography visualizes the mechanical properties of an object with the vibration or acoustic emission induced by acoustic radiation force. This method usually uses dynamic radiation force induced by amplitude-modulated ultrasound. However, it is necessary to select a modulation frequency close to a natural frequency of an object. To solve this problem, we have proposed using the transient response of an object to a step-functional acoustic radiation force in the vibro-acoustgraphy (hereinafter referred to as the ``transient response method''). This report discussed the feasibility of applying the transient response method to imaging a metallic foil with a defect. The object is an aluminum foil with a slit of different length. Transient response signals were acquired by laser Doppler vibrometry while scanning the ultrasonic irradiation position. The amplitudes and resonance frequencies of obtained signals constructed an image. The results showed that the transient response method clearly showed the presence of a slit, regardless of whether the amplitude or resonance frequency. |
