300GHz band Sub-Terahertz Sensing Technologies for High Resolution Imaging

(in English) Integration of communication and sensing functions utilizing high frequency bands for the 6G era is attracting attention. The terahertz waves expected to be introduced in 6G have a wavelength of about 1 mm at 300 GHz and have the potential to achieve unprecedented high-resolution sensing. This paper shows near-field sensing results by acquiring reflection and scattering signals using broadband terahertz waves with a measurement system that assumes an array antenna. The results of the analysis revealed that imaging with a resolution of less than 1 cm at a distance of 1-2 m is possible, and that clear tomographic imaging is achieved by taking advantage of the transparency of terahertz waves and their broadband nature.
