As global warming becomes an important issue in the world, it is one of demands for energy saving to increase the single unit capacity of turbine generators. One way to solve this problem is to increase the diameter of slip rings, and steel slip rings have attracted attention as slip rings with superior strength and wear resistance that can withstand large diameters and high peripheral speeds. However, there are few reports on the use of steel slip rings at high current densities, and the brush wear process is still unclear.
In this study, high current density experiments were conducted using steel slip rings and copper graphite brushes. Experiments were conducted at different current densities (0~60 A/cm2), and wear characteristics were examined based on the contact voltage
drop during the experiments and the temperature of the sliding surfaces. Further, brush wear are discussed based on the results of post-experimental analysis. |
