[Invited Lecture] Impedance Inversion Wireless Matching Circuit Using Qi Coils

(in English) We report on the matching circuit designed in the matching circuit contest (85 kHz category) held on March 17, 2023. This contest was a competition to magnify the transmission coefficient |S21|2 of a 2-port network of circuits connected to a fabricated matching circuit and a pre-distributed Zkown circuit. We speculate that the Zknown circuit may satisfy the gyrator characteristic. To verify this speculation, we confirm the input-output current-voltage characteristics and impedance conversion characteristics of the ideal gyrator. As a result, we find that the Zkown circuit shows the gyrator characteristic. Next, we show that the vertical connection of gyrators with equal gyration resistances satisfies the Through characteristic. Taking advantage of this characteristic, in this contest we fabricate a gyrator with equal gyration resistance to the Zknown circuit and match it to 50 Ω. While there are several circuit configurations that satisfy the gyrator property, we fabricate a wireless gyrator with a Qi coil, named after the organizer. As a result of the competition, the fabricated wireless gyrator resulted in |S21| = —1.7291 dB, |S21|2 =0.67. This result was the highest among the participating teams and won the grand prize. This paper reports on the design method of the prototype wireless gyrator using Qi coils.
