[Invited Lecture] Development of an Antenna Switching MIMO Channel Sounder with Software Defined Radio

(in English) Propagation channel measurement is essential for the proper design of wireless communication systems. Channelsounders and vector network analyzers are used for radio channel measurement, but those are usually expensive, complicated tocalibrate, and have limited measurement scenarios. This study focused on the software-defined radio system (USRP) to developa low-cost and flexible channel sounder. Furthermore, to capture the spatial channel characteristics, we employed a MIMO (mul-tiple-input-multiple-output) scheme where antenna elements are switched using RF switches. This paper presents an overviewof the developed antenna-switching 8x8 MIMO channel sounder and its performance evaluation results. We plan to extend thesystem to acquire multi-link MIMO channel characteristics to achieve highly accurate indoor positioning.
