An eVTOL (electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing aircraft) is gaining attention from industrialists and academics. The eVTOL is emerging as a new option as an aerial vehicle for urban mobility, which is a greener and quieter flight. eVTOL can be also used to travel to remote islands and mountain regions. The main applications required for reliable eVTOL are real-time map updating and remote control during emergencies. Therefore, eVTOL requires high-speed and large-capacity ubiquitous communication. eVTOL performs communication using cellular networks. However, eVTOL flies between 150m and 1000m above the ground and suffers from propagation loss from the ground base station owing to long-distance communication. On the other hand, LEO,(Low Earth Orbit), satellite is increasingly attracting attention as a means of extending coverage to the sky, which is not covered by current mobile communication systems, and integrated satellite-ground networks are expected to be realized.Hence, in this research, we study the eVTOL communication system that connects to the LEO satellite and ground station to enable reliable and ubiquitous communication. However, this system requires several handovers by eVTOL between a ground station and LEO satellites owing to travel in remote areas, which may increase the delay and lower the throughput. Therefore, we propose a handover method to achieve high speed and capacity for eVTOL and show the effectiveness through performance evaluation. |
