(in English) When an electromagnetic field can be assumed to have a specific spatial dependency or it can be expanded into a set of relatively small number of modes from symmetry of the problem, a three-dimensional (3D) problem can be reduced into a set of two-dimensional (2D) problems for the small mode numbers. We conduct a fundamental study on applying the modal expansion approach to the recently proposed magnetically semi-implicit finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. We discuss the stability and convergence of the resulting 2D FDTD scheme for mode number.
