High-band UWB radar is characterized by its low power density and low impact on humans due to the use of very broadband electromagnetic waves, and it can be produced at a lower cost than other radar types. In this study, we conducted an experiment using an artificial heart-lung machine to confirm the characteristics of the high-band UWB radar for the purpose of non-contact measurement of human respiration and heart rate using this radar. As a result, it was shown that the high-band UWB radar used in this study can capture minute vibrations below its own basic resolution. Next, we conducted an experiment using the high-band UWB radar to measure respiration and heartbeat in a human subject. Various measurement parameters such as the distance from the radar to the subject, the radar threshold, and the transmission power were changed. The results showed that it was possible to measure human respiration and heart rate under certain conditions. |
