Development of viscosity measurement method under extreme low-shear rate

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) We have developed a measurement technique using the EMS (Electro Magnetically Spinning) method to measure the viscosity of highly viscous fluids at very low shear rates.
The EMS method uses electromagnetic interaction to generate a driving torque, which enables control at low shear rates that could not be achieved with a conventional rheometer, and viscosity can be precisely measured by detecting the motion of the probe. In this study, based on the floating EMS method, which can measure low viscosity liquids at low shear rates with high accuracy, we designed a device that can apply higher torque accurately and can detect minute rotations. As a result, we were able to measure the viscosity of 100 Pa・s liquid at a shear rate of 10-8sec-1.
