Viscosity behavior of low viscosity samples in the low shear rate range

(in English) The viscosity behavior of “low viscous liquid in the low shear-rate region” was evaluated with an EMS viscometer. EMS is an abbreviation for Electro-Magnetically-Spinning, and EMS viscometer is an innovative viscometer that uses the force of a magnetic field to measure the viscosity, enabling the remote and non-contact measurement between the sample and the instrument. We are challenging to measure viscosity in situations where it is by any means difficult by the conventional viscometers. In recent years, the demand for accurate viscosity measurement of low viscous samples is required as the scale of liquid handling is getting refined. We succeeded this time in capturing the viscosity behavior of such low viscous sample as water and in the region of low shear rate range of 10 s-1 or less, which is difficult to measure even with a high-grade Rheometer equipped with air bearing mechanism. We applied the simple aluminum Disk as the shape of the probe and floated it on the surface of the liquid to measure. This geometry enables the viscosity measurement completely free of mechanical friction. We evaluated the viscosity difference between genuine and compatible inkjet inks.
