Because Mt. Fuji has a high possibility of disasters such as eruptions and falling rocks, reliable communications are required. However, the current communications environment has geographic and timing limitations. Therefore, integrating 5G and low earth orbit (LEO) satellites is a promising approach because LEO can provide low-delay and high-coverage satellite communication. To offer effective integration, the communication quality of LEO, including Starlink, still needs to be fully understood. This paper evaluates the communication quality of Starlink, mainly in terms of latency, power consumption, and throughput, and reveals the periodical transition (15-sec cycle) of throughput adopting time-series analysis. Furthermore, this paper demonstrates the possibility of buffering-based Quality of Service (QoS) control utilizing the throughput characteristic. |
