In order to cope with rapidly increasing communication traffic, spectral efficiency needs to be improved by means of ultra-dense wavelength division multiplexing and higher-order quadrature amplitude modulation. However, these schemes are susceptible to the interactive system impairment caused by chromatic dispersion and laser phase noise. The impact of the signal degradation varies with the symbol rate. This paper evaluates the tolerance against the interactive impairment while changing the symbol rate. Simulations confirm the impacts of laser phase noise and chromatic dispersion and show the effectiveness of digital subcarrier multiplexing in long-haul transmission systems. |
