In the 6G era, it is necessary to reduce dependence on terrestrial networks by developing a communications infrastructure that can stand alone in space and the stratosphere to reduce the cost of maintaining base stations in remote areas and emergency response to disasters, which are expected to increase. Accordingly, the Space-Air-Ground Integrated Network (SAGIN), which is a multi-layered network of satellites, aerial objects such as high-altitude platform stations (HAPSs) and ground terminals, has attracted much attention as a network that is expected to contribute to the above needs and the coverage extension. In order to improve communication quality compared to direct transmission between a satellite and a group of ground terminals, our research group has conceived of two-way transmission between a satellite and ground terminals using a HAPS as a relay base station, and has proposed the mathematical model that enables integrated control of the transmission power allocated by a HAPS relay station to both links according to the geographical distribution of communication requests at each group of ground terminals using the uplinks and downlinks. This paper introduces a case study of two-way transmission technology using the HAPS relay station to improve the communication quality between satellite and ground terminals in SAGIN and outlines the future prospects of this technology. |
