[Invited Lecture] Nullforming and Coordination Techniques for Spectrum Sharing between High-Altitude Platforms and Terrestrial Networks

(in English) Non-terrestrial networks (NTNs) using high-altitude platform stations (HAPSs) have garnered significant attention as a leading technology for providing an extended coverage in mobile communications. For operating multiple HAPSs using the same frequency band as terrestrial networks, interference with terrestrial cells, which is produced by HAPSs, and interference between HAPSs should be properly managed. The authors have considered nullforming and coordination techniques for spectrum sharing between HAPSs and terrestrial networks. In this invited lecture, we introduce a nullforming technique combined with subarray grouping for reducing the interference with service areas of neighboring HAPSs, targeting massive MIMO systems with a cylindrical array antenna that achieves the service area with a radius of 100 km. In addition, nullforming schemes for mitigating the interference with terrestrial cells are also introduced. Furthermore, we give a presentation on a null-sweeping scheme where HAPSs switch the direction of nulls in time and/or frequency domain in coordination with terrestrial base stations, which can improve the interference reduction performance through multiple nulls with different directions.
