The 5th generation mobile communication system has already been commercially introduced worldwide, and commercial services have already launched in Japan in 2020. As a further development of 5G, it is attracting a great deal of attention as a promising technology that will support the resolution of future industrial and social issues. Industrial use cases require not only high speed and large capacity, but also high reliability and low delay, so stricter requirements and high wireless performance are required compared to communication services to consumer. For further utilization of 5G in industrial sites, the authors demonstrated 5G transmission experiments in each frequency environment using 28 GHz band and 3.6 GHz band radio waves in an actual manufacturing factory. In this experiment, a Nokia 5G base station was installed in the manufacturing area of OMRON’s Kusatsu factory, and a 5G terminal was mounted on a carrier robot that moved through the factory to acquire 5G transmission characteristics in the factory while moving at low speed. In this report, we introduce the experimental configuration and equipment used in the transmission trial, such as the base station and mobile station located in the OMRON’s Kusatsu factory. From the test, we confirmed that the downlink throughput can be achieved 1 Gbps approximately and the latency level also satisfies the requirements for wireless communication in factories at both frequency band. The effectiveness of 5G utilization in factory use case is confirmed. |
