Power Control Method for O-RAN Base Stations Utilizing Data Analytics of Number of Mobile Users and Non-Terrestrial Networks

(in English) To reduce the power consumption of Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN), we propose a power-on/-off scheduling for base stations (BSs) for each time (every 1 hour) based on LSTM supported data analytics of time-varying pedestrian flow in each mesh area. In our proposed method, mobile terminals existing in mesh areas in which the BSs are turned off can access NTN, and thereby the power consumption of O-RAN can be reduced with maintaining the continuity of communications, bitrate, and so on. Through numerical calculations using real data, we evaluate the prediction accuracy of pedestrian flow in each mesh area, and the power reduction rate and suitability of the proposed power scheduling. We also implement our method in a controller and verify its feasibility by demonstrating power-on/off control of an O-RAN BS using a mobile testbed.
