Sentiment-based correction and interpretation of the diffusion index

(in English) Reading economic indices is common when assessing economic conditions. In recent years, however, many studies have been conducted on economic sentiment measurement due to the importance of people's sentiments as a primary driver of consumption behavior. Several previous studies have used economic decisions derived from the Economy Watchers Survey as training data. Despite this, the real value of the Diffusion Index (DI) does not appear to be highly correlated with other economic indices, which may be due to various biases arising from people's thoughts and feelings. In this study, DI was corrected with sentiment analysis using a large-scale language model to obtain a more accurate picture of economic conditions. Furthermore, the factors that support DI were clarified.
