Frequency Band Selection for Multiple Mobile Networks Towards Remote Monitoring of Autonomous Driving

(in English) In recent years, Level 4 Autonomous Driving demonstrations, in which the system performs all driving tasks in a specific area, have been actively conducted. In addition, the Road Traffic Act was revised in 2022, requiring clear and real-time remote monitoring by video during autonomous driving, and the realization of stable video transmission using mobile networks is required at an early stage. However, current mobile networks are affected by multipath fading and frequent handovers, which cause sudden increases in latency and decreases in throughput, making it difficult to achieve stable video transmission. To mitigate these effects, a communications method using multiple mobile networks has been proposed, but control that takes into consideration the frequency band used by each network has not been fully investigated. Therefore, when multiple networks use the same frequency band, they are affected by quality degradation at the same time. To address this problem, we propose a network selection method that distributes the frequency band used by each communication module based on the RSRP and RTT. We implemented the proposed method using Python and evaluated it in a real environment, and verified that the proposed method can distribute the timing of the handover.
