Proposal of location data protection mechanism by TEE considering privacy zone setting

(in English) In recent years, there has been an increasing trend in sharing and utilizing individuals’ mobility trajectories. Among these, the Fitness Tracking Social Network (FTSN) is a prominent application that collects location data and records and shares the movement trajectories in outdoor fitness activities. Since location data strongly reflects an individual’s privacy, some location data is kept private within the application through privacy zone settings to prevent third-party access. However, with many service providers utilizing databases in the cloud, there is a potential risk of location data leakage when cloud providers with higher privileges access the database directly. In response to such threats, databases using Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) to create protected areas in memory have garnered attention. However, applying this approach to large-scale location data is challenging due to memory size limitations of the protected area. Therefore, in this research, we propose a database that protect only the location data within the privacy zone in the protected area, thus reducing the memory usage of the protected area while safeguarding location data.
