Estimation of Energy Yield of a Solar Roof on EVs with Differential Power Processing Converter using a 3D Model and Validation of the Analytical Model

(in English) Photovoltaic (PV) panels consist of a substring of multiple cells connected in series. In particular, the characteristic mismatch of PV substrings and cells in curved solar roofs of EVs triggers a significant reduction in energy yield. Differential power processing converters (DPPCs) have been proposed to prevent negative influences of characteristic mismatch. Uniform electrical characteristics across all cells require the use of both cell-level and substring-level DPPC, which increases the cost of the system. Therefore, it is desirable to determine the level of DPPC installation by considering the increase in energy yield, and an analytical model that accurately predicts the power generation of curved PV panels is needed. In this paper, a 3D model of a 56-cell PV panel on a Prius PHV is reproduced, and a energy yield analysis model is created. The analytical model was validated through field tests. In addition, the analytical model was used to evaluate the annual energy yield using cell and sub-string level DPPCs.
