A wireless sensor network WSN is widely used in various applications. Usually, a sensor node SN is so tiny and limited in battery use that it requires energy-efficient operation. Such efficiency is often evaluated by a lifetime, i.e., the time that how long a WSN continues its operation. In this report, we target the most popular routing protocol LEACH (Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy) in a WSN model. LEACH is a clustering routing, which groups each SN into a cluster with one Cluster Head CH, which sends aggregated data to the base station BS directly. The lifetime of a WSN depends on the cluster head ratio as well as the BS location. Generally, the farer the BS, the shorter a lifetime. We term the ratio that provides the longest lifetime the optimal ratio. In this report, for possible many BS locations, first we execute LEACH simulation experiments to find such optimal ratio. Next, we compare lifetimes by LEACH with that by Direct transmission to make sure the validity of multihop data transmission. Finally, we consider how to obtain such ratio via the BS location beforehand. |
